Taj Mahal Table

"Taj Mahal table" is a recent custommade work using an inlaid alabaster stone top as a starting point to create a unique and functional side table . The clients came to me with the octagonal stone top they had bought 27 years ago at an open air marketplace while visiting the Taj Mahal in India . They asked me to design a base that would compliment the stone , could be lit from within and would be compatible with a room furnished with antiques . My octagonal base is made of Baltic birch , veneered with double thickness black walnut and laminated walnut details . The interior is lined with acrylic mirror to amplify the brightness of a low wattage CF bulb within . A simple
push-on/off switch is integrated into one of the handholds . I also sealed and finished the porous stone with a flat varnish to withstand everyday use . The finished table height is 21 "
