Tea Box

JAPANESE TEA CRATE
These Asian style crates are designed from a pre-WWI crate I found at an antique store in Michigan. The original crate/box is made out of Asian Pine. The choice of lumber that I picked for my crates is Air Dried Cypress. I also have limited supply of Reclaimed Doug Fir, they both have a lot of character to them.
お茶木箱
The Japanese writing on the crates say tea crate/wooden box. Each tea crate is built with Traditional Asian style joinery, wooden nails/pegged and Asian style hardware. The crates are first painted with a milk paint, then hand waxed to preserve them. The inside of the tea crate is left completely unfinished to prevent clashing with the smell of great teas and spices. The red and white crates are made out of cypress and the black one is made out of Doug Fir.

All the tea crate doors have a magnetic catch to keep them closed. These tea crates come with hardware and instructions on how to hang them on the wall. I can also build them without hardware or writing to be used as a small crate. Some have used them for storing china, silverware and small quilts. I have two of these hanging in my kitchen full of tea and our guests are always talking about them.
