The Black-Haired Sisters

a small painting of two women, in a style reminiscent of a woodcut or block print, black on white, their hair streaming and combining, twining them together, flowing along their bodies and outlining and defining them. the original sketch reminded me a bit of an anime, but the finished painting less so. it is both stark and soft, the way the lines curve and flow and the forms merge. I've done a lot of black and white line art in pen, some of which I've photographed and coloured in photoshop, but this is the only black and white painting I've ever done. strictly speaking: black and white, no shades of grey. it was treated as a line drawing.

it is a small work, painted in acrylic on foam core. the edges are finished so framing is optional, and it is ready to hang.
