Kitty Kubby

EVERY WINTER when things are slow around here, the boys and girls of the design group go into a huddle and usually come up for air in a couple of days with one or two good product ideas.

The Kitty Kubby is one of our all-time favorites. It solves two problems, where to feed your cat so you are not constantly tripping over the cat bowl, while keeping the cat dish out of the dog's reach; and where to put the litter box so the mess is hidden and the odor contained.

Our solution is to mount a tambour door on a cabinet. A tambour door is, as you know, a roll-up door like you see in an old roll-top desk. The old tambours had reliability problems and tended jam up after a few years. The new tambours use an entirely different operating principle, and rarely fail. A tambour usually has a slot at the bottom where you can grip the door to raise it. Our design group figured that if we make the slot larger, we end up with a cat-size hole in the door so kitty has easy access to food and water or litter, but the pesky dog is banned. Put the cat bowl or cat litter inside and close the door. When you want to feed the cat or change the litter, roll the door up, take care of business, and roll it back down.

We make the Kitty Kubby three ways. As a kitchen cabinet in any of the hundreds of styles we make; as a free-standing furniture cabinet; and as just a door assembly that you can mount in your existing cabinet. You send is the dimensions of the opening it needs to fit, and we will make it that size. Installation requires a screwdriver and a drill, and is well within the ability of even the modestly handy.

Our Kitty Kubby cabinet easily holds a water and food bowl with plenty of room to move around, or a litter box large enough for three adult cats. The mess is our of sight and the litter and odor of the litter box are contained.

The cubbie is very feline friendly. It plays into your cat's natural instinct to den up in small, cozy enclosures. So your cat will love it, and more importantly, use it. It's such a perfect solution to the litter problem that we can't believe no on had thought of it before, but evidently no one has.

There are some size limitations. The door cannot be narrower than 11-1/2" nor wider than 36". It must be at least 18" tall, but cannot be more than 30" tall. Since we buy our tambour material from a commercial source, we cannot get every wood species in every size, So contact us for availability in your wood of choice.
