The Giraffe Cat Tower

This piece was designed and built for a true giraffe aficionado, a woman with giraffe paintings, giraffe sculptures, and giraffe kitchenware. She also has four cats.

Springing from a 36" x 36" carpeted wood base with counterweights within, the giraffe is solely neck and head, comprised of a wood frame, clad with Bendy MDF boards, and painted with latex paint. The giraffe's mane is made with industrial horsehair door sweeps, and the head is a sandwich of cut wood pieces attached to a utensil holder and a salad bowl (as the owner's cats love to nest in bowls). cut wooden salad spoons function as the ears, and tapered wood furniture legs, installed upside down, form the giraffe's horns. A sisal rope webbing forms the net around the upper neck, giving the cats a place to perch and play. The painted wooden eyes are covered with a plastic vacuum tube that has been cut and splayed to create eyelashes.

"Geraldine," as she is affectionately called, stands approximately 6'-4" tall floor to crown.
