This gorgeous mask features bead embroidery with Delica and other seed beads, pearls, and Swarovski crystals around tiger eye cabochons. The main cabochon in the middle contains iridescent swirls of blues and golds (which is a bit hard to see in the photos) and was the inspiration for the overall design. Pearls and crystals create focal lines extending out from the stones, and green and blue seed beads fill in the spaces. The back is a soft black Ultrasuede with a snake-skin pattern. The mask ties onto the wearer with a silver ribbon.
I made this mask as a project for one of my art therapy and counseling classes. The idea behind the project was to focus on an activity that would help us to achieve an intention. My intention was greater inner peace and self knowing. My activity was to make a bead embroidered mask while journaling about the process. This mask represents me, my boundaries, my beliefs, and other things that are not always apparent to others. It is meant to show who I am to the world instead of hiding my true self. Hence, it is a mask that is not a mask.
