For this piece, simplicity in form was the main focus. I wanted to contrast my two "loves", one being the exposed edges of industrially-produced Baltic birch plywood and hand-crafted features such as the through dovetails, which were cut by hand.
The drawer and legs are of the same species, Ash. The interior of the case was stained with India ink which was then sanded through to bring the grain back. The entire piece was then coated with three coats of sprayed lacquer.
This coffee table was designed for the 1930's bungalow my girlfriend and I just bought in Providence, RI (our first house!)
