The Perihelion Spindle: A Handmade Wood & Brass Table Top Sculpture
This is the Perihelion Spindle.
The wooden elements are all hand turned upon a wood lathe, while the brass mounting apparatus is entirely custom machined upon a metal lathe and a milling machine: other than the brass Fillister screws, every component is completely hand made.
The primary sphere is approximately 5" in diameter, and whole piece stands around 17" tall including the pedestal. The sphere headpiece is removable with the unscrewing of the brass mounting bolt with the knurled head.
TAKE NOTICE: If a commission is placed for a Perihelion Spindle, you will receive a piece similar to the one in the above photos: it will not be exactly the same. As all my pieces are hand-made, the final products end up slightly different from piece to piece. Variations also occur as I am implementing wood burl, a natural product with its own unique character.
This is not found object or assemblage sculpture: every single part is made within my shop.
