A custom order for simple teacups with a single rose turned into a project that was amazing to complete. After a meeting with the customer and sketching some ideas we decided on a large, thick rose cup with the lid being the petals to the rose.
The cups were thrown on the wheel with high fire stone ware clay as closed forms. The initial carving of the petals was done using a razor blade and wooden knife on the wheel. Hand carving was then used to form the personality of each petal. Once completed the cup was placed back on the wheel and the lid was cut from the base.
The color was chosen by the customer, it is matte in texture and is food, oven, microwave and dishwasher safe.
