This torrified (heat-treated) American Ash picnic table was inspired by the Arts & Crafts furniture of the late 19th century. The torrification is an environmentally friendly way of preserving the wood from rot without resorting to toxic chemical treatments. Torrification also darkens the wood without the use of stains. The effect is similar to Gustoff Stickley's ammonia fumed oak which penetrated deep into his classic Mission Style furniture. The natural Bangkirai oil is hand-rubbed to give the wood it's luster and is also safe and easy to maintain. Our resident blacksmith and lock-maker Kevin has hand forged the iron heart foot-clasps and carraige-bolts.This is our 'Green' response to disposable outdoor furniture which is so prolific. If maintained this table will last many generations. Each table is custom made to order. We also make custom round tables, chairs and benches in this style.
