This is a commissioned piece that depicts a transformation from innocence to that of higher wisdom. The upper right front depicts a raven (the harbinger of journey and transformation), while below is a little girl reaching for an apple. The tree trunk grows up the spine of the journal cover and the natural grain of the leather gives it a true bark-like appearance (the bark and apples do not show up as well in the photographs as they do when you see in person). The back cover depicts a eaten apple core in bottom left, and an owl perched high in tree in upper back left.
The art is origional and is hand cut into the leather and block dyed to achieve the dappled, surreal effect. The clasp is an antler tip hand carved and burned (pyrography) to resemble a leaf.
The inside flap contains a leather apple appliqué - there to remind this person to always bite deeply and never fear the unknown. And the entire journal is saddle-stitched in waxed cotton. To finish, I have treated the journal cover with beeswax to protect it and give the owner many years of joy.
The price does not include the Moleskine journal. Please inquire with any special requests. I would be more than happy to bring your vision to life. If you're like me, I write and draw every day. It's nice to be able to hold something close that inspires you and keeps safe the words or sketches contained within. This journal cover has been spoken for, but one can be created for you in about a week.
Thank you and be well!
Dimensions: This is a 6x9 cover. Can make to specs.
