I searched for months for an oversized (7") newel post emulating the design and workmanship of 100 years ago for our farmhouse. I found Bill Pinion's site and can only say the whole experience of working with Bill has been delightful from start to finish. Top notch craftsmanship, first class professionalism.
This newel and secondary posts are made of white oak. The newel is 7.5 inches in doameter and 43 inches high. The secondart post are 3.75 inches in diameter and 43 inches high.
