Upcycled green wool sweater with crocheted dragons and vintage rayon velvet appliqués, size large
This sweater started life as a rather plain, but good quality, wool cardigan. It has reincarnated into something daring, but not all-out crazy. I have taken this demure sweater and given it extra character by adding appliqués to the front and back. The front is adorned with a splash of vintage rayon velvet, hand stitched with wool darning thread, a painstaking process. Embroidery is not my favorite activity. However, I enjoy and excel at crochet. The design for the appliqués on the back was taken from carvings on ancient Viking lodges. I crocheted each dragon separately then arranged them on the sweater and stitched them on.
All of the materials used to make it were upcycled. The sweater was discarded, I discovered the rayon velvet at a yard sale, I found the wool darning thread used for the stitching at a thrift store, and the wool for the appliqués came from unfinished tapestry kits.
These unwanted items have conspired to create this unique piece of wearable art.
The knit sweater foundation of this piece makes the size very versatile. I have given the measurements in a range of sizes it would fit
Bust: 34" - 40"
Waist: 32" - 36"
Hips: 34" - 40"
