A great old movie theater in downtown Little Rock was about to be demolished so I hurried down and took a bunch of photos. I loved the combination of color and composition within the framework of subject matter that appears to be realistic. To boil that down: I don't try to recreate the colors, the exact proportions or the textures from the photograph - I use the photo as a launching pad to produce what I consider tone poems. I've done a dozen of these, several inspiring people to commission me to paint a sign that they like, or a sign with their initial in it. And they look great in living spaces and offices.
