Walnut Flitch Table

This black walnut table is; 72" L x +/- 54" W x 1 3/4" Th. The trestle base is also walnut with mortise & tenon joints. 'Flitch' is a term used for a slab of wood that is produced when the boards have the natural edge of the tree. This produces the widest most beautiful boards possible from the log.

The beauty of Flitch wood is the natural outstanding grain patterns and color variation that parallel the natural edges, also the unique size of the board.

Since the design of the top is largely the shape & grain of the tree, every top is unique.

The chair design is a combination of 'Shaker' & 'Windsor'. Made public by Thomas Moser. The continuos curved arm, carved seats, delicate spindles, and the, wedged through tendons, make this chair physically strong and aesthetically light.

Most any other piece of furniture can be designed and built using flitches.
