This walnut slab was a mess when I first found it. But I knew there was beauty in it.
The top is solid walnut, the legs are solid ash inlaid with walnut. The top has 5 butterfly keys inlaid into it. The keys are also walnut. Three in top and two underneath. This will prevent the top from 'checking' any farther.
The curved ash legs are held together with a 2 in thick sliding dovetail that will prevent the legs from seperating. The last three pictures are meant to show that feature.
The two stretchers are solid walnut which have been mortised and tenoned into the legs. The base, on which the ash legs sit, is a highly figured walnut.
This beauty is living with a nice family in Maimi. However I have recently aquired a smilar walnut top that needs a home.
