This Welcome Banner painted tapestry hangs in the Southside Santa Fe, New Mexico Meeting House of the Religious Society of Friends, called Quakerhouse. It was commissioned in 2009 to grace the end of a long, long hall down which visitors to the Meeting House walk on their way to worship. The image is both landscape and skyscape featuring a foreground of earth and a suggestion of flowerbed framing the word "welcome"; rising above the horizon is a huge cloud with just the beginning of a rainbow at its foot. Quakerhouse requested that there be no literal religious imagery involved, but that the piece should have an element of inspiration. In New Mexico the most inspiring of all things is a raincloud!
The banner is made of handwoven cotton materials; the image is embellished and sealed with acrylic paint rendering a sturdy, cleanable surface. Lettering is from a typeface developed by the artist. The piece is hung by means of two 2 " diameter wood rods.
