"With Respect and Tenderness" was created as a series in 1998 and has only been exhibited one time. I created eight separate images of a single deer after the hunt, I have three that remain. It was a unique experience for me, and not at all what I anticipated. What I saw was a craftsman with great respect for the animal. If I can use the word "Lovingly", I saw this individual take a great deal of time and an extremely skilled hand as he removed the hide and spoke to me gently about the process. It was with love. My rendering in watercolor is a hopeful chance at grasping the tangible and the spirit of the animal. Upon close inspection you will see that the deer takes on a transparent quality, it's spirit that the hunter knows so well, but also the image that I saw hanging. I brought the head upward as an acknowledgment to both. As an artist, I learn something new everyday, and this was another wonderful day to treasure. The paper measures approximately 22" x 16", but through the opening of a mat the image exposed should be approximately 19 1/2" x 13". This image is water colored onto a collage surface which I also used gesso.
