Wooden Music Box With Rotating Interior

This was a fun and challenging project to create with a client on Custommade. He requested a special tune "Moonlight Sonata" for the music box, and had a rough idea of what he wanted. It took a bit of planning to get the music to play when the lid opens and stop when it closes and to have the bottles turning too.

Later he asked if we could incorporate some lighting into the box as well. He even wrote the poem that's carved into the lid. He plans to put little maps into the bottles as part of an anniversary gift for his girlfriend.

She's a pretty lucky lady to have someone who puts this much thought into his expression of love for her. Makes what we do so enjoyable.

The music box is made from cherry wood and lined with brown velvet. Oil-based metallic paint was used to give it an antique look and embellish the carved areas.

The lids of the bottles were carved to match the interior circle that holds the bottles. A piano hinge was used and a lock with a skeleton key adds to the antique look of the piece. The lights are battery powered with a small switch on the bottom of the box with an access panel for the batteries.
