Turned from a piece of sugar maple the Great Blue Heron is then sketched and carved, adding grasses along the backside ala relief carving. The negative space is removed in the from and the bird is shaped. Next everything gets sanded and the shape refined, paying particular attention to the body of the bird. The acrylic airbrushing begins and glazing to make the light wok for us. Finally it is sealed and a base is turned from rosewood to accept the body.
