This art piece is a combination of reclaimed barnwood and a world map that was cut from raw steel which is 1/16" thick. There are multiple steps involved in the making and planning of this unique art piece.
The first part of the process involved developing the world map, which I was able to duplicate onto a sheet of steel. This was cut with a plasma cutting tool to create the world map. The steel used is raw black steel which gives a nice natural look. This steel cut-out is offset from the artwork behind it by 1/2" to create a 3 dimensional effect. To prevent movement and support the metal, it is adhered and supported by thicker pieces of wood strategically placed behind the solid pieces. I also clear coated the steel to preserve it. I then built the artwork on a solid backer board with a dark espresso stained hardwood frame. Next, I applied all the barnwood strips to give it a nice back drop to the art piece. All the strips of wood are completely natural in color; there are no stains that has been applied to the inner pieces. I then applied two coats of low VOC water base sealer to preserve the art piece. Once finished, I was able to drop the steel into place and installed another frame that locks it in place.

The artwork in the pictures measures 48″L x 24″H x 2″D

Each art piece is hand signed and dated in the back.

I also include a heavy duty mounting brackets.
