A little over a year ago, our gun enthusiast customers noted the absence of holsters in the CustomMade hunting gear gallery. At the time, we provided a PDF list of cusCustomMader makers through our blog. Since then, we’ve added many new makers and galleries, including artisans who create beautiful leather custom gun accessories such as holsters, belts, and carrying cases that combine functionality and panache. Take a look at some of these recent additions to CustomMade and learn more about the craftsmen behind the pieces and the expertise and experience they bring to their work.
A fifth generation native of Montana, artisan Rett Goss of 2nd Chance Custom Leather has a impressive portfolio of custom leatherwork including chaps, wallets, and saddles, for both horses and motorcycles. This one-of-a-kind leather belt and gun holster features custom tooling and carving and truly captures the rugged and uncomplicated essence of western chic. “I believe that quality over quantity is important, and each item I create is a piece of art,” says Rett. Steve Close of The Saddle Shack is not only an expert leatherworker but also an experienced western rider who understands the importance of comfort, safety, and functionality for leather riding equipment, for both the rider and the mount. Check out his CustomMade portfolio. “We won’t sell anything we wouldn’t use on our own horses,” says Steve. Whether you’re riding a horse or ATV, or carrying a rifle off your shoulder, he can custom design a tooled rifle scabbard to fit your needs. This piece is made from top quality North American leather and features an oak leaf and acorn design. Your custom scabbard can be designed to hold your rifle butt up or down, crafted from leather dyed to match your saddle, and tooled with a design, letter, or border of your choice.
This ranger style gun belt and holster by Goetz Custom Leather sports a striking silver engraved concho and herring bone basket stamp pattern that accentuates the rich mahogany color of the leather. This piece was also custom made for performance. It was designed to hold a Ruger .44 magnum and has a deep-set holster for hunting on horseback. Artisan Scott Goetz’s works are made “to perform in the arena or on the range,” and he draws on his experience as a team roper and former bareback rider. Take a look at his portfolio and contact Scott to discuss the aesthetic and performance specifications for your next custom holster.
Gunslingers with reflexes like greased lightning are an indelible part of the lore of the American Old West. The art of the fast draw lives on through groups like the Cowboy Fast Draw Association who promote “safety first, fun second, and competition third” through events such as The Jesse James Territorial Cowboy Fast Draw Shoot. Recently, the 2nd place trophy for this event was this custom-built leather pistol case by Circle Bar-T LeatherWorks. The case was made with leather from the Hermann Oak Leather tannery in St. Louis, MO, and features a basket weave design, a starburst border, solid brass hardware, and golden dyed sheep wool for the interior. Master leather craftsman Marty Overstreet specializes in creating “what our customer can’t find but would love to own.” For a sampling of what he has created for his clients, visit his CustomMade portfolio. He writes: “We build only ‘ONE OF A KIND’ custom leather products to be handed down for generations.” Stop searching for your future heirloom in the retail market.
