Canale is the Italian word for "canals," referring to the intricate patterns that characterize this … style. In the creation of Canale vessels, multiple layers of color are individually applied to the blown glass; following each application, the piece must be reheated in the furnace at temperatures in excess of 2000 Fahrenheit before the next layer can be added to the piece. The Italian city of Venice, known for its canals, is also world-renowned for its colorful, elaborate, and skillfully made glass.
