East-west settings engagement ring designs

A few of our favorite engagement rings with a horizontally set center stone.

Updated August 25, 2022

Couples who like the vibe of a timeless engagement ring design but want a bit of a twist have discovered the east-west setting. These rings have an elongated center stone—think emerald or oval—but instead of being set vertically in the ring, the stone sits horizontally across the finger. Take a look at some of our favorite east-west engagement ring designs that our customers have envisioned!

1

We kick off our list of east-west rings with a stunning iridescent opal set in the center of a yellow gold band. This couple envisioned the oval stone set horizontally across the finger with three diamond accents on either side. The kaleidoscope of colors draws us in but this couple’s personalizations have us intrigued. Inside the yellow gold band reads the inscription “Forevermore” and the profile of the ring hides a peekaboo burger on one side and an open book on the other. Who wouldn’t be enthralled by an east-west ring that brings together food and reading?

2

The next engagement ring in our list holds an emerald cut lab created diamond in a twisting east-west setting. This couple wanted to add even more bling to their ring with diamond accents on either size of the horizontally set stone. A swirling filigree design makes its appearance on the profile of the band, giving this couple another special touch.

3

We love the way the east-west setting highlights the gorgeous oval cut emerald in this engagement ring. The bright green and white gold swirling band give this ring “luck of the Irish” vibes, and the couple chose to add a unique touch of six prongs to hold the center stone in place.

4

Our gem experts are the pros at finding unique stones for our customers’ one-of-a-kind rings, but there are still times when even we’re surprised! This couple wanted a simplistic look for their ring with a lot of unique touches, starting with this beautiful chocolate colored tourmaline in an east-west setting. The tourmaline takes center stage with a simple gold band, but turn the ring to its profile and you’re greeted by a charming little honeybee.

5

This couple chose a gloriously sunny yellow sapphire for their east-west, semi-bezel setting with lab-created diamond accents trailing down the band. The white gold band is embellished with a delicate flower half-way down on either side and a peekaboo painter’s palette sits on the sapphire’s profile.

6

This couple loved their oval-cut center moissanite so much that they echoed the shape throughout the ring with oval-cut emerald accents dotting the woven band. The east-west center stone is held by flower petals making this a green goddess-worthy ring.

7

Our final east-west favorite puts a modern spin on the traditional diamond solitaire engagement ring. A spectacular emerald cut lab diamond sits horizontally with additional diamond accents pavé-set in the band. This couple chose to keep their personalization their little secret with a tiny arrow etched inside the ring.
