19th Century Cast Iron Wall Sconce

This radiant wall mounted sconce began life as a 19th Century heating grate with the increasingly rare "Sunburst" motif.

The years of paint and grime were painstakingly removed from this highly figured, ornate piece, and it was polished to a brilliant sheen to bring out the nickel and chromium alloys within, then clear coated with a high gloss treatment. A hand chosen, quarter inch thick, polished honey onyx lens was then sized, cut and seamlessly affixed.

A custom welded steel surround was fabricated with integral hidden baffles and reflectors, then patinaed to match and clear coated with the same high gloss treatment.

This heirloom quality creation was featured in the 8th Annual Guerrilla Truck Show, one of Chicago's premier design events, and is truly stunning. The photos don't do it justice, as I am a much better fabricator than photographer.

It will however transform a room. And when used with a dimmer switch, it glows a myriad of warm tones, from golden yellows to stoic ambers, and all glorious hues in between.
