Handmade Bird Walking Cane In Cocobolo And Shedua Wood - Walking Stick, Gift Idea, Wood Art

This exhibition quality cane will be handmade from scratch for you! The pictured piece features Cocobolo wood and a shimmery Shedua wood shaft. We can make it exactly as shown or choose from an infinite number of wood combinations for something truly unique.

During use your index finger wraps comfortably underneath the "beak". Designed to imply motion and flight, the handle is poised slightly forward in relation to the shaft. Therefore, the weight bearing portion of the handle is directly over the shaft, giving the piece a very stable feel. This is a signature design of mine and is very comfortable to use.

Please allow 2-3 weeks for your custom ordered cane to be crafted. Let us know your desired cane height when ordering.

All of our canes and walking sticks are designed and handmade by Shawn Gillis, an artist and woodworker who considers each piece he creates to be his "functional art." We seek out and choose to work with top quality woods from all over the world that are all sustainably harvested. Each cane is designed with durability, comfort, and style in mind so that you can enjoy using your unique piece every day for years to come. Each handle is joined to its shaft with a sturdy metal bolt that provides strength. Our canes are all completed with a glossy finish that provides protection and a smooth feel to the wood.

Here are our instructions for determining your proper cane height:

1. Stand comfortably erect with your hands at your sides, with your shoes on.

2. Have a helper measure the distance from the floor to the bottom of your forearm/top of wrist of whichever hand you wish to hold the cane with. (You may need assistance with the measurement so as to avoid disrupting an ideal posture.)

This method will allow for an ideal amount of bend in your arm. Too much, or too little bend in your arm can cause posture issues and muscle aches.

This was a wonderful experience with crafter artisan, Sean Gillis. Early on, he answered questions I had and customized the piece, to
meet the needs specified. The walking stick/ cane, turned out just beautiful! I am not sure if this piece will be used as intended, or placed on display in the home, as it is so lovely. I am certain this gift will be well appreciated for a lifetime.
Thank you, Sean, for the high quality of materials and artistry you deliver.

I ordered the Bird Walking Cane in Cocobolo only. Communication about the particulars was very good. Unfortunately, the size of the handle was too small for my hand. Shawn was very responsive and accommodating. He took back the cane and created another with a different handle. There was an extra charge due to the difference in cost, but was appropriate. The cane is awesome, many comments from friends and strangers about the beautiful work. The 3 stars for timeliness was only due to the need to return the cane and for Shawn to create a new one. Highly recommend his work and a pleasure to work with.
