I have used 5 cherry dovetail keys on this piece. The dovetail keys are not just for looks but also serve a purpose and that is to keep the cracks (checks) fro spreading any further.

The item is has been finished with clear satin polyurethane. So the piece will stand up to water and basically anything you can think of.

And finally the wood is resting on 3 spoke hair pin legs.
