Bottle Cap Mural

This was a commission for a 22'4" x 59" mural made entirely with bottle caps and beer cans. I filled the cans with foam and cut them in half, then glued them to a plywood backing. The client supplied the design as well as the cans and bottle caps. I divided the design into 11 sections, then I had the design sections printed full size. The elements in each section were cut out and traced to the plywood sections. I then glued the correct color caps in place, taking care to overlap each one. Caps on the edges were designed to overlap each section. Each section was screwed to a plywood wall with six screws, then the screws were covered with the correct color cap. Those caps were marked with an UV sensitive marker so they can be located if the piece ever needs to be moved. There are over 20,000 caps in the piece. Each cap had to be flattened with a hammer. I transported the sections to the client's location and installed it myself.
