Carved Hope Chest
32" Wide x 16 1/2" Tall x 16" Deep, 42 Hours
The letter carving on the front of the chest was my first attempt at the technique. The curved letters present the most difficulties and require the proper shaped gouges. I was quite pleased with the results.
The dovetailed carcase meets the floor with help from an ogee bracket foot base. The ogee is shaped using the cove cutting method on a tablesaw, then finished with scrapers and sanding.
The pulls stop at 90* and allow easy transport of the chest.
The Carved Hope Chest is made of black cherry. It is finished with boiled linseed oil, shellac and paste wax.
