Fused Glass Day Of Dead Wall Art - "Cher-Y Godmother"

This project began as a butterfly - I was going to call it "Metamorphosis". Then, as frequently happens, the art took on a life of its own, and went in this direction. After I had fired the body and removed it from the kiln I thought "this looks like Cher"... well, now you know the rest of the story.

This was my first "full body" skeleton with all of those teeny-tiny bones; they can be really aggravating when you are grinding them to shape and they go flying.... there's still probably a few of her ribs someplace in my studio.

The wings are cut from iridized glass, so they have a nice rainbow sheen to them that looks different, depending on the light. I chose a clear textured glass for the back glass that contains flowers - to match the flowers on the frame. To finish the frame I applied a light wood stain, as the grain of the wood is so beautiful. Two coats of wax seal and protect...
