Cherry Music Box
This wooden music box is made from cherry. A separate compartment in the box is used for a purchased muscial movement. A variety of turnes can be selected. The 3/16 in. box joints are a design detail to show contrast between end grain and face grain of the wood. An indent around the top of the lid provides an attractive detail. Solid brass hinges are used.
The box could be made from any domestic hardwood or exotic woods as desired. The center portion of the top of the box is made from cherry, but could also be made from a contrasting wood such as maple. The dimensions of this box are 13 in. wide by7 in. deep by 4.25 in. high. A custom box could be made to any dimensions. A bevel is added at the front of the box to aid in opening the lid. The box is finished with a clear satin wipe on polyurethane. Oil finishes can also be used.
