I've had this slab of cherry on my wood rack for at least 15 years just waiting for the right moment. I wanted a really substantial base to be able to support the visual weight of the top. I didn't have anything heavy enough so I went out to look through some local woods for a downed cherry tree, which I soon found. The antique glass shelf was salvaged from a job in NYC.
