Chester County Spice Box

Spice boxes were a status symbol in Colonial America and not every household was furnished with one, only those that were prosperous. These ornate boxes were shared by husband and wife for the storage of jewelry, silver, shoe buckles, documents and other small valuables. These boxes are well known in Chester County, Pennsylvania as most originals are dated and traced back to this area. Today these boxes make wonderful jewelry boxes and gifts for weddings and anniversaries with the couples initials inlaid in the striking holly inlay.
