"Messenger Of The Gods" (Oriental Crane) Laundry Stained Glass Window

Responding to our client's wishes to add drama to her laundry room and keep to her home's Chinese decor, we agreed upon a Red-crowned crane as the theme. Also known as a Japanese or Manchurian crane, it is a good omen and messenger of the gods in East Asia. To evoke the crane's feathers we used machine-made textured glass and cobalt blue mouth-blown crackle glass. The background glass is a light tint mouth-blown glass that lets in plenty of light and reveals the client's lovely yard.

Jay installed the stained glass window inside an existing pane of glass, allowing a little air space to add to the insulating R-value. The stained glass panel itself is "cemented," making it rigid, water-proof, and air-tight. Jay's semi-permanent installation includes finish trim (wood in this case) which can be removed should the owner every want to move the stained glass.
