Contemporary Desk

This desk uses a combination of Western maple and walnut to create a stark contrast in color between the main desk and the drawers. The "box construction" is joined using splined miters, with walnut splines to both give strength to the joint and create a unique visual element to the desk. Similarly, the trestle-style legs combine with the geometric shape of the top to blend the familiar with the distinct.

The desk was designed with ease of transportation in mind. The legs are secured to the top with threaded inserts and large machine screws so that it can be broken down and put back together easily time and time again. The stretcher that stabilizes the legs (and has a beveled edge to act as a great foot rest) has unglued mortise-and-tenon joinery, secured with decorative bolts and cross-dowel fasteners. The desk is approximately 50 inches wide by 22 inches deep.

It can be made in a variety of wood species and in various sizes.
