Shaving Scuttle

A scuttle is an aid for people who like "wet" shaving, using it to warm their lather before putting it on their face (or other body parts). The unit is a single piece and well-weighted so it sits nicely on your counter while in use.

I originally made one as a commission piece. Its owner was so pleased, I decided to make more for my shop.

How to use:
You can either boil water separately and pour it into the outside chamber of the scuttle, or you can microwave the water in the scuttle -- one of the advantages of stoneware.

Put hot water in the open portion of the scuttle and let it sit for a while to warm the piece. Empty it and fill the inner compartment with hot water -- this will keep the upper cup hot for when you add your lather or shaving soap.

Rinse your shaving brush with hot water, then charge it with soap or cream and develop the lather in the scuttle's heated, upper cup after you've emptied out the water that was in there. The result will be a luxuriously warm lather for your face.
