Table Sculpture - Flight Of The Imagination

Flight of the Imagination is an art glass piece that combines fused glass, dichoic glass and traditional stained glass elements. The design was inspired by the crab claw sails of the ancient Polynesians who set sail into an immense ocean with only the sun, the stars and the waves to guide them to a new home. If that doesn't require a flight of the imagination, I don't know what does!
It is a free standing table sculpture that looks stunning in a living room, office or library. The rich colors shift according to the light that it is transmitting. The warm red, amber and aqua of the sail contrasts with the gentle aquamarine and turquoise of the billowing clouds as well as the deep blues and purple of the ocean wave. The dichroic stars were inspired by a kapa pattern. They are set into a lauhala style weave of midnight blue introducing a graphic element.
The glass panel is in a two sided mahogany frame that is anchored in a slate base, also framed in mahogany.
