Here is a Florida Mahogany coffee table with lower shelf and steel base. This one had a 1 1/2" thick top and 7/8" thick shelf. Top measured 60" X 35" X 18" tall also with a smaller under shelf of matching mahogany. I made a matching end table as well (see pics). When I build a custom table like this I will choose a large log to mill. I will start out slicing 1" slabs till I get close to the center and widest point of the log. Then I will start cutting 2" slabs. Finishing the log off by cutting more 1" slabs will give me enough slabs to do multiple items that will all match in color, grains and spalting.
