This Diptych is carved from prehistoric mammoth ivory. It displays Christ on the cross and Virgin Mary with Baby Jesus guarded by two angels in great detail. The back is carved as well.
Original carvings from the Middle Ages are priceless and unfortunately also made from elephant ivory. I carve this kind of spiritual art for its beauty and meaning and I use only 10,000 year old mammoth ivory. In this way the art of triptych carving can be preserved and no animal is harmed in the process.
