Platter- Kailua

I made this platter for a client who wanted to bring the outdoors in. Croton plants line his front lanai and their vibrant red, green and gold colors were the inspiration for both the palette and the kiln carved leaf patterns.
I raked glass in my kiln to create an organic flow of colors for the various areas. I cut the glass to fit and then re-fired it to create the unified piece. Leaf patterns were cut from fiber material and placed under the fused glass which was fired to create the kiln carved pattern on the back of the platter. Once the piece was sized, the platter was fire polished. Then back into the kiln for a final firing to slump the platter to form the slightly bowed form with gently lifted corners.
The platter adds a blast of color to the table setting making any day a festive one. The bowed shape is perfect for holding fruit or it could be used as a serving platter. It is food safe but should be hand washed. Not for use in the microwave oven.
