Kitchen Island Countertop
This is a kitchen island top 1.5" thick, 3.5 ft long and 2 ft. wide. The ends are 3.5" tall and hold the board up off the table.
We used solid hardwoods joined together to make this symmetrical pattern with exotics and domestics combined.
The tabletop is machined flat to within 1/1000". It is sanded through 1200 grit while added 5 coats of varnish for a shimmer that brings out "chatoyance" which makes the wood flash as the light hits it at different angles. When this happens it is truly one of the nicest sights to see.
The woods in this particular counter top are as follows from center:
Figured Cherry, Honduras Mahogany, Curly Maple, Purpleheart, Figured Maple, Purpleheart, Curly Maple, Curly Birch, Mahogany, Cherry
Breadboard ends are Curly Birch (see chatoyance)
