This piece of wall art is part of my "Day of the Dead" series, which is ongoing (I love it!).
Inspiration for this piece came from looking a a peacock feather.. this is replicated in glass, within the hair ornament. I had originally intended to include at least one feather, but the piece took me in another direction.
It turned into a mixed media work with the netting and bone ornament on her head, and the metal necklace near the bottom of the composition. This design is very "organic"... flowing and curling lines throughout, echoed even in the dimensional decorations on the frame. I like the contrast between the unyielding nature of the the smooth, hard glass and the other elements within.
Prominently featured on the hat is a bone that I found during a hike in the desert. After scrubbing it clean, I stained it to a color that blended well and added glass beads and netting to complete.
The "neckline of flowers" reminds me of melted chocolate... hence the name, Lady Godiva!
The wooden frame is very dimensional.. I finished it with a number of colored waxes to "soften it"; dimensions of the finished piece are 27"h x 23" w x 2.5"d.
Shipping costs will have to be determined once a know your location; if packed correctly, this piece will be quite stable for shipping.
If you like my work but don't see a piece that says "buy me now", I'm happy to create a custom piece just for you!
