I met an older man who was a Kentucky stick maker. I got to know him and then "Got the sickness" as he described it. I live in a small town in Illinois where we have a landscape waste depository. It gets filled with the most beautiful wood which is very quickly burned in a big heap. Not sure whether desire to collect wood or making sticks is the goal of my current obsession with stick making. I use almost all recovered woods, only buying blanks in woods that are not available to me. All sticks are handmade by me and I love to make custom sticks that reflect a person's individual personality. I use American Wild Cherry, osage orange, mulberry, maple, alder,,..... They are finished with either an orange oil/beeswax mix, a paste wax or polyeurethane.
