Sidelight Windows - Manoa Banana Leaves

This pair of windows were installed on either side of a plantation style sliding glass door. Textured architectural glass was used so that the beautiful view of Manoa valley was not obscured.
The design features arching banana leaves and each side has a unique design though both side are anchored with a vertical band centered on a pair of amethyst roundels. The combination of geometric and organic shapes creates a pleasing balance.
The instructions from the client were very open- a design that made sense to the surroundings of the house. I chose banana leaves because their broad shape would keep the design open and their gentle curves reflected the laid back ambiance of the house and its owners. Though I didn't know this at the time of submitting the design, the owners of the house had owned a farm when they first came to Hawaii and their logo incorporated banana leaves. This made the design all the more personal to them.
