Fused Glass Sculpture- Modern Asian Themed In Red, White, Black

This sculpture was commissioned to add to an existing decor that has an Asian vibe. The colors red, black and white are dominant with a graphic minimalist sensibility. The client had the idea of a totem with panels stacked vertically. The fluidity of the calligraphy creates a contrast with the simplicity of the red squares. Using opaque and transparent red to compose the squares gives the piece a sense of subtle movement while the clear glass nuggets and black stringers add texture and depth.

To create the glass panel, I reverse fused the glass to keep the crisp divisions of color and then tack fused the clear nuggets, black stingers and hand panted calligraphy onto the surface of the glass. Once the panel was done, I built the frame using poplar painted a semi-gloss black with a high polished black granite for the base.

The glass panel is 18.5" x 4.5". The dimensions for the entire sculpture are 25" H x 9.5" W x 7.5" D.

Michelle was fantastic to work with, I can't reccomend her highly enough, this is not the first time I have commissioned custom art work but it is by far the best experience I have ever had with an artist, she communicated clearly and often with photo's and updates and worked really hard to make sure the final product was as we had envisioned, she finished on time, on budget and the glass arrived with no damage whatsoever. We will defintely recommend her to friends and use her on future projects.
