Pacific Vista Sideboard

CHALLENGED TO design a dining room suite in the Prairie Style with just a hint of the orient, our designer-in-residence retreated into his studio to emerge two days later with drawings in hand for the Pacific Vista Collection.

DIMENSIONS: 72"W x 35"H x 22"D

HERITAGE PERIODS:
• Arts & Crafts, 1900-1941,
• Post-War Modernist: 1946-1960.

Asian elements in the interior design of homes the first half of the 20th century were very common. American was intrigued by anything oriental, and freely imported Asian , primarily Japanese, decorative and design elements. Greene and Greene, very famous architects of the period borrowed many of their signature motifs from Asia, including their "cloud lift" rails, a feature of Chinese furniture; and "tsuba" decorative devices which were derived from a Samurai sword guards.

In our Collection the Eastern influence is more subtle, but contributes to the light and airy look of furniture that is actually solid and durable, designed to give many lifetimes of service.

The sideboard is designed specifically for an Arts & Crafts period home. It features the organic design and exposed joinery of Craftsman furniture with the clean lines of the Prairie School of architecture. But, it is equally at home in a post-war modernist house where its rounded stretchers give it a somewhat Scandinavian Modernist feel.

The sideboard is available in five standard wood species, red and white oak, mahogany, black walnut and American cherry. The table top can be hard maple for durability, with another, more decorative, wood making up the rest of the table. We can also make it without a top so you can add your own countertop to match the rest of your kitchen. We will send along plans for your counter-top fabricator.

CUSTOMIZATION: And, as is usual with our completely hand made furniture, you can customize it to fit your exact requirements with any size and combination of drawers and shelves that will fit into the case.

CRAFTSMANSHIP: Crafted with precession joinery typical of fine Arts and Crafts Period furnishings, it also includes the latest drawer technology. Our full extension under-mount glides are virtually invisible and make drawer operation smooth, safe and trouble-free. A self-close mechanism softly shuts the drawer for you and makes sure it stays closed. Each pair of slides is rated to hold 100 lbs.

The decorative hardware is authentic hammered bronze or wrought iron for absolute authenticity. Available in five standard wood species and over 60 standard finishes. If none of these suit you, then pick a wood and we'll see if we can get it.

Finished in our seventeen-step hand-applied finish using durable and nearly indestructible polyurethane, this is a piece designed and built to last many lifetimes with minimal care. We also offer custom finishes including hand-polished lacquer.
