Pennsylvania Spice Box (Jewelry Box)

One of my favorite things to build, this piece takes the form of a traditional spice box. Used extensively throughout the 18th and 19th centuries, these lockable boxes served the rather utilitarian function of storing a homeowners spices and powdered cooking goods. While certainly out of date with regards to storing spices, many contemporary homeowners find this form very useful for storing jewelry or writing instruments. This piece is made of hand sawn figured American Black Walnut and features a unique string and berry inlay
