What a wonderful artist Michelle is! After meeting with us initially to better understand what we had in mind for the transom window, she prepared several artist drawings with suggested themes. Every one was a possibility that we could have been pleased with. With her talent it made it difficult to decide. We settled on one, then changed to another, and finally after incorporating elements from more than one, and with further changes and additions we finally settled on what has become a work of art in the 6' wide arched transom window above our 8' front doors. It incorporates elements of the family's heritage with a truly wonderful rondel at it's center.
This portrait was created by kiln carving into the back of a 1/2" slab of fused glass. The client provided a photograph of the woman and wanted her done in olive green. By layering fiber paper and adding enamel to the darkest areas, I was able to create a sense of depth in the glass.
The fused glass portrait is 12" x 12" and is seated in a slate base that is framed in mahogany. The overall dimensions of this table top sculpture are 13" x 12.5" x 6.5".
