I carved this quarter rest out of solid silver maple. The color is similar to a honey oak tone. This wood was chainsawn out of a large slab, shaped on a bandsaw then carved with various carving tools including a carving head I have for an auto body angle grinder. It was sanded and sanded with successfully finer grades of sandpaper and finished with multiple coats of polyurethane and wax. It stands about 40 inches tall including the base, which is a carved piece of thick pine which I stained with an ebony stain.
