Redwood Coffee Table

This coffee table has seen more than most, while vacationing on the Northern CA, coast I purchased this slab of redwood from a local supplier. The tree had originally been cut nearly 150 years ago, but the giant 12 foot diameter stump remained. The property the stump was on was purchased and the new owners where struggling to find a way to remove the massive 16 foot tall stump, as they where commonly cut at such heights to get above the swell of the stump, only straight even logs where desired. This supplier happened upon it purchased the stump as is and cut it into quarters with a huge chainsaw and with large earthmoving equipment loaded it onto a trailer and brought it to the yard where it was milled into slabs. The burned edge is left as it was from forest fires passing through over the years, this particular piece were from a large upper root structure near the ground level. Such beauty in an old left behind stump. The legs and stretchers are made of Wenge and extremely hard African wood, they are shaped with a bent form lamination, and meaning thin strips are sandwiched together with glue and pressed together leaving them in their current shape. This is a one of a kind slab and exact match will never happen, the supplier is still available and slabs from this stump are still available, shipping charges for a slab of choice will have to be evaluated.
